The above tomb will be opened to visitors
Especially during the years, shortly after the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamen, people were very eager to gain access to that tomb. International businesses, like, in this case, the American Express Company were also very eager to apply for permissions for their clients to see the tomb.
Here’s a letter, dated February 13th, 1924, to the Ministry of Public Works in Egypt asking to grant a Mr. and Mrs. Haunter and a Mr. and Mrs. Bernheimer access to the tomb.
February 13th, 1924.
H.E. THE UNDER SECRETARY
OF STATE FOR PUBLIC WORKS,
According to the press, we understand that the above tomb will be opened to visitors at a date to be decided as soon as possible after Februari 17th. In view of this fact, we should be much obliged if you would grant the necessary permits to Mr. and Mrs. Hanuauer and Mr. and Mrs. Bernheimer.
We would add for your information that the former is a prominent New York banker and carries a letter of introduction to Mr. A.M. Light of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and is also a personal friend of the president of this company. The most suitable dates would be from February 21st to February 24th inclusive, as this party will be staying at Luxor (Winter Palace Hotel) at this time.
With thanks in advance,
Very truly yours,
